First Look at Gera’s Street Tacos

Gera's Street Tacos

Every drive down the street and see a food truck that’s new to you and decide to stop by even though you just had dinner? That’s what I did when I came across Gera’s Street Tacos that’s parked in front of the Worldfone wireless building at 1459 N. Broadway St. It’s also located by El Sombrero bar that permanently closed this summer.

Since I just had dinner, I avoided ordering the machete, tortas and quesadillas on the menu. Instead, I went with three tacos at $2.75 a piece. While such proteins like cabeza and buche are on the menu, they were out of those and only had barbacoa, asada and pastor.

Everything was made fresh and they had a decent amount of traffic stopping in for food. The staff was extremely nice and engaging with everyone.

Unfortunately, I just wasn’t a fan of the tacos. Most of the meats were overcooked, leaving a tough, burnt exterior. The carne asada, for example, had some pretty hard, crispy pieces that made the whole experience unenjoyable. I took at most two bites of each taco and called it a day.

I’m hoping it was just one bad batch because so many other people coming in seemed to be enjoying their tacos. The people there were so delightful that I wanted so bad to enjoy the food.

The group after me ordered a machete that looked much better. Who knows, but with a packed Mexican food truck scene on Broadway, especially those open late at night, they’ll need to step it up.
