“He didn’t have a child, he doesn’t have a legacy, he has no one to carry on for him. So what we have lost, it’s gone,” said his sister, Shafawn Carver.

The family of the Taco Bell employee who was shot and killed by his manager at the restaurant in Scott Twp. have started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to deal with his funeral expenses.The mother and sister of victim Dorian Carver spoke with Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 via Zoom as they prepared to return here from Texas for his funeral.They say Carver just turned 32 on the first of this month and was shot and killed on his father’s birthday. He and his fiancee were planning to be married.”He didn’t have a child, he doesn’t have a legacy, he has no one to carry on for him. So what we have lost, it’s gone,” said his sister, Shafawn Carver. “Dorian was a good son. He was my baby and I was very proud of him. because he was doing it right. He was working,” Carmella Wilson, mother of the victim, told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. “He was a protector for his family, He would die for one of us,” said Shafawn. She described her brother as smart, a loved son, brother and uncle who had formed an amazing bond with her son.”He was working, he had a job, he was happy. When we spoke with him you could see it in his spirit that things were different for him this time,” she said.His fatal shooting was a case that had Scott Township swarming with police and SWAT teams for hours on Wednesday.Carver’s accused killer was his manager at a Taco Bell, Zairyre Simmons, who was charged with following Carver after a clash at work, then gunning Carver down inside the nearby Northwestern Mutual where Carver went to ask to use the phone.Carver’s mother says her son tried to get away from the confrontation, leaving his cell phone at the Taco Bell in the process, but Simmons pursued him.”Dorian walked away from him. I told my son, I raised my son, I said, ‘Dorian, when you get to those altercations,’ I said, ‘Be the better man and walk away.’ I told him to walk away,” Wilson said.They said that Carver was being supportive of the manager who since took his life.”Dorian was helping this boy get to work. Dorian was cash-apping him money to get to work. Him and his girlfriend were driving him home from work, after work. They were helping this man,” Wilson said. “Because you had a gun, it made you feel tough. That’s all it is. These guns don’t make you tough. Mothers, check on your sons. Even if they’re just going to work at Taco Bell,” Wilson said.Simmons’ preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 2. “The D.A. that picks up this case, there is no plea bargaining, there is no forgiveness. This man is 23 years old that killed my son. If he gets 25, he’ll get out when he’s 50 years old. No. There’s no plea bargaining. He gets life or the death sentence,” Wilson said.
